24 Jun The Slow Build
Why Not Every Post Needs to Go Viral to be Working
This post was written by Aliveah, our summer intern.
In an era of virality and blowing up overnight, it can be discouraging to post something you’re particularly proud of and watch it get under 10 likes, 1 of which is definitely from your mom.
So you start questioning, is this even working?
The answer is yes. It is working.
The myth of a viral moment
There is a version of social media success that is like a firework, you light it up and suddenly it’s exploding more than you could’ve even imagined. And yes that does happen, but it’s not the norm. It’s definitely not the goal.
For most, growth doesn’t look like a spike. It looks like a slow climb upwards that you can’t see until you look back at how far you’ve come.
Every post is planting a seed
Think about it like this. Someone comes across your page for the first time. They aren’t ready to dive right in and purchase anything, but they drop a like and follow. They see the next post. And another one. A couple weeks later, they see they need exactly what you offer, and their mind goes to you first.
That is the slow build. That is the part you can’t see.
Each post does something, even if numbers don’t reflect it. It’s building familiarity and trust in a brand. It’s telling people over and over again, we’re here, we know what people want and we are not going anywhere.
Consistency is Strategy
Chasing virality = ONE big moment
Consistency = Relationship building
You don’t need a post that 100,000 strangers see, like, and move on. You want 100 people who believe in your brand and go to you when they need what you offer. That isn’t built off quick views, it’s built through repetition and small moments of showing up.
So keep going
The post with under 10 likes? It was seen. The caption that you overthought for 30 minutes? Someone read that whole thing.
You’re planting seeds in a garden. They don’t grow overnight. Consistency wins out over virality every time. Because the people that are seeing, are the people that actually want to see and believe in your brand.
Keep posting, keep showing up. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
