My Whim

Rock Hill Bakehouse Cafe holds a special place in my heart. It’s where I met my husband Cory for the first time, back even before he hosted their open mic, which he did for more than two years.
Rock Hill and Wallabee’s Jazz Bar is where I met most of my friends. Rock Hill was one of Advokate’s first three customers, and we’re now going on the third year of Advokate behind the scenes of their Facebook page. I consider Matt and Beth friends of mine.

And these days, the cafe is also the Advokate office. I meet most of my clients over coffee, tea or a Rock Hill sandwich. In the summer, Advokate is pretty much fueled by Rock Hill’s passionfruit iced tea. I had wild pregnancy cravings for Rock Hill’s Pane Bello bread.

Being a vegetarian, I know the veg options on the menu there like the back of my hand. They’re always gracious about my substitutions when I grow tired of what’s on the menu and want to make something up (one can only eat the same sandwich so many times in one week!).
So this morning when I met my client over tea and saw my name on the Specials chalkboard in Beth’s writing, I felt like a celebrity! My sandwich – “The Kate” – is today’s Chef’s Whim! The grown-up grilled cheese (smoked mozzarella and pesto) on sundried tomato bread. SO good. Way to make a girl feel special! I remember when I moved to town that Gordon Woodworth had his own special drink named after him at Ridge Street Coffee Co. I aspired to that level of local fame. It’s good to know I’ve made it! I am deeply honored.

Rock Hill happens to be running a contest right now where you can compile your own Whim and if it’s selected, you get a free lunch and the sandwich named after you! All are invited to enter in person at the cafe. You can guess what I put in there. I can only hope…
