Meet our Interns: Leigh, Elizabeth, and Cole

We have to thank Brené Choppa, the Work-Based Learning Coordinator for Early College Career Academy & PTECH at WSWHE BOCES’ SUNY Campus, for hooking us up with three savvy, creative interns this week: Leigh, Elizabeth, and Cole. Here is what they wrote about their experience, and the work they created during their time at Advokate.

For the past 3 days I have been interning at Advokate and I have been having a great time! We started by getting to know a little bit about the company and the people who worked there, and then we quickly started working on our own projects assigned to us.

My first project was to animate the company’s logo by making the star on the logo move. The only problem I faced with this task was that I had no clue how to animate, but over the course of the day after messing around in the software, I learned how to animate and was able to complete the task, which they loved.

The next day, we spent most of our time at Birch Bark Eatery which is a vegan based cafe and doughnut shop that Advokate was partnered with. We were in the process of creating a calendar and labels for the doughnuts, getting familiar with that company. As we got to know a little bit more about the company we started to get a grasp on how we wanted our designs to come out. We also had time to walk around Glens Falls and take pictures of the scenery for their Instagram page. On the final day, we mainly spent our time finishing up our projects for Birch Bark Eatery.

Overall, I had a great time interning at Advokate. The people working here are all super nice and it is a fun work environment. I would definitely like to come back to work for them again.

Advokate is amazing! I had a great experience interning for a few days and seeing what was in demand in our local area for graphic design. While interning I was able to familiarize myself with a few local businesses and work on some small projects. One of the projects allowed me to use some pre-existing work and arrange it to be used as a postcard for a second annual Roots Vegan Festival. It was an incredible opportunity and I am so grateful to have been able to get some real-world experience under my belt that can help me in the future.

In the 3 days I’ve been interning at Advokate, I’ve had a blast! I’ve learned how graphic design as a business works, and how fun it would be to work for one. It’s been a very fun and interesting process, and all throughout it Advokate made me feel right at home. I’m also not distracted to the point where I can’t focus on the task at hand. If I had the opportunity, I would definitely come back.
